MILITARY AND UTILITY OPERATORS
The PPS Flight Planning and CrewBriefing solution is a very efficient, suitable and powerful flight planning solution for military and utility operators who operate light to heavy turboprop and jet aircrafts. The PPS Flight Planning and CrewBriefing solution is currently used by numerous European air force operators as well as a number of utility operators with speciality operations such as target towing services, flight calibration services, remote arctic operations as well as aircraft manufacturers.
With the set-up facilities and flexibility built into PPS, it can easily accommodate aircraft performance data set-up and flight log lay-out designs used in more special operations such as SAR Search and Rescue operations, special cargo flights with tactical airdrop segments and cargo flights with complex combination of armour plating, cargo rollers and auxiliary fuel/ordnance loading. It is also suited towards operation of long-range business jet operations conducted by state departments.PPS also facilitates installation of special aircraft performance data based on drag coefficient data to offset performance reducing auxiliary equipment such as airborne early warning radars.
PPS contains all aeronautical data, information on the specific aircraft DOC costs along with fuel price management facilities and automatic calculation of en-route overflight charges. This enables even military operators to analyse and select the minimum production cost routing as well as the most economical flight level while taking into consideration en-route winds and temperature forecast data. A direct return of the investment in PPS can, thus, be expected in a very short time through reduced flight time and fuel cost and saved en-route overflight charges.
Features such as EROPS planning with calculation of oxygen requirements and ETOPS ETP planning with critical fuel scenarios and performance driftdown calculation profiles are available. Upload of flight plan and wind data from PPS to the aircraft’s onboard FMS system is also available providing the aircraft carries an FMS Satcom subscription with Honeywell Global Data Centre or ARINC Direct. Upload services through military avionic systems are also available on special project basis.
Solution Advantages
The advantages of the PPS Flight Planning and CrewBriefing solution along with optional advanced module features mean that the operator gets a pc-based flight planning software tool that will create everything the crew needs for complex special missions within a minute or two; it will generate the routing, calculate cruise performance and fuel requirements with the option to add-in tactical flight segments based on target time or target fuel. The system will calculate optimum FL, initial weight and balance, EROPS/ETOPS/ETP calculation analysis with critical fuel scenarios, file the flight plans electronically worldwide, manage CFMU slot messages and CTOTs while giving the user full planning flexibility in the process. Without human interaction required, trip tailored briefings are automatically created and made instantly available via the internet on www.CrewBriefing.com. A CrewBriefing package can include the operational flight plan/log with updated winds and temperatures, ATS flight plan copy and updated trip tailored NOTAM briefing, surface weather briefing, wind charts, vertical cross section wind charts, significant weather charts as well as company messages and company NOTAMs. A special upload feature allows the operations department to upload additional pdf documents applying to the flight.
The system can run off a lap-top as well as be installed on a network or Terminal Server environment if required. The PPS Flight Planning main system as well as the route generator system can also work off-line meaning that military pilots and dispatchers have full mission planning capability in the middle of the dessert where they will be able to generate and print their OFP operational flight plan on a battery powered printer without any internet connection required.
The fact that the PPS Flight Planning system is pc-based and that the PPS CrewBriefing solution is web-based and are fully integrated with each other means that it is a very efficient, suitable and powerful flight planning solution for military and utility operators. This integration coupling and way of working makes it very simple and very efficient for pilots as well as dispatchers to create and manage all daily flight missions, change flight plans, send delay messages etc. A pilot colleague who is located at the base can easily help another pilot colleague located at a remote destination since all PPS Users from the same unit can have access to view and edit flight data for other flights. The pilot flying the mission could also carry a lap-top which has an internet connection for full independent on-the-fly creation of new operational flight plans, filing of new ATS flight plans, changes etc. Military and utility operators with operations departments can in parallel with pilot controlled flight planning take advantage of centralized support towards flight crews abroad since the operations department will typically be using the PPS Flight Planning system for creating and managing present and new flights whereas the crew abroad can focus on using the CrewBriefing facilities.
If a pilot or an operations dispatcher plans a flight the day before or makes a flight plan with short notice, then when the flight departs all the pilot has to do is to go to www.CrewBriefing.com to retrieve his fully updated briefing package on-the-fly without any action required other than briefing himself and printing out the updated package or alternatively fax it from CrewBriefing or download it to a lap-top.
All communication via the internet for military and utility flights can take place via SSL encrypted data transmission as required.
